PLATELET INNOVATIONS – LUCK OF THE IRISH

If you’re into platelets, we can now supply a storage device which can safely store platelet concentrates at room temperature for up to 7 days. Irish company Pplus Medical have developed the Digital Platelet Storage Device (DSD). It features a controlled temperature environment combined with gentle agitation to maintain platelet functionality throughout the storage period. The device is portable with a 7.5-hour battery life.  This allows transporting platelets from remote patient locations.

For those needing a consistent, ethical substitute for animal-derived platelet agonists in research applications, we can also supply Collagen-Related Peptide (CRP-A) – A high-purity (>99%), fully synthetic, stable platelet activator with strong aggregation/activation potency and batch to batch consistency.

PPlus innovations are increasingly used by universities and labs, including leading institutions such as Harvard Medical School.  Work is being conducted in fields such as rare and inherited blood disorders, haematology, cardiovascular research, thrombosis and drug discovery.

LOOKING FOR HIGHER APTT SENSITIVITY TO FVIII AND FIX?

While our Cephen LS and LR reagents from Hyphen BioMed are ideal for lupus anticoagulant testing (and widely used), their strength is not for detecting reduced levels of factors VIII and IX.  We have recently evaluated a new APTT reagent from Shanghai Sun Biotech (SSBT),  an emerging power in the coagulation diagnostics industry. We found their silica-based APTT reagent to be equivalent to Synthasil (IL/Werfen) for detecting most coagulation defects, but more sensitive to low factors VIII and IX. We also found it to be less affected by the occasional lupus anticoagulant which often cause concern about prolonged APTT results in pre-surgical cases.

If you are interested in checking this out, we might be able to supply samples. SSBT also supply coagulation testing machines using the magnetic ball system similar to that used in Stago instruments.

Haematex is the only Australian distributor which carries out local R&D into coagulation diagnostics. When you purchase from us, a portion of profits go towards projects such as our own locally made DOAC-Stop™, and research on dRVVT and lupus anticoagulants.
